Advice in a Well of Midnight
In our film, Advice in a Well of Midnight, bodies and objects are absorbed into scan lines and a multitude of photographs by 3D scanning the artists in their studio space. The 3D scans turn out inherently imperfect to our eyes yet are recognizable as figures. What remains is a ghostly translation of what has been (in a certain time and a certain place).
In installation space, Advice in a Well of Midnight is displayed between two paintings from our Static Subjection series. These paintings are based off of stills and geometry from the animation.
Static Subjection series
In our Static Subjection painting series, instead of re-inscribing the figures in animated motion, we bring the final act of mark making to our painting robot. Each stroke is created from the same absorbed geometry with an applied texture that make up Advice in a Well of Midnight.
