Plastic Veil
Our animation, Plastic Veil, illustrates how plastics not only obscure but do real harm to our environment. We chose to highlight three landscapes very sensitive to environmental impact: air and mountains, oceans, and fields. This animation was created for Denver Digerati’s Activating Environmental Awareness program, curated by Beatie Wolfe.
Air and Mountains
Each scene starts completely obscured with plastic. As we peel back layers of plastic to reveal the natural environment behind, we learn more about the history of plastics in our environment.
Oceans
Plastic Veil highlights a brief timeline of plastics in our environment and how plastic does more than obscure our scenery. Our advisor for this project, Dr. Taylor Nelson wrote and collaborated with us on our text to ground our work.
Dr. Taylor Nelson is an environmental chemist trained at Stanford and ETH Zurich. His work involves design of new polymers used for plastics, and explores how aspects of the chemistry of these materials influences their degradation in the environment. He advised us on the final language for each landscape section as they are relevant to their unique environments
